Notts Novice Competition
Sunday 6th November 2011

69 participants took part over 2 competitions at the second Notts Novice competition held at Retford Gymnastics Club. There were entries from Dukeries Gym Club, Erewash Valley Gym Club, Retford Gym Club, Worksop Gym Club, Mansfield Gym Club. Manor Gym Club and Notts Gymnastics Academy. The competition was divided by Novice and Novice + categories with age groups ranging from 6 to 12+.

The competition is a four piece meant for those gymnasts that have not yet competed in a competition that includes bars, beam, floor and vault. The competition stayed on schedule with some great performances in the morning session there was a quick turn around before the afternoon session commenced.

In the morning session there were medals for Worksop, Manor and Dukeries. Jasmine Lin from Dukeries came first in the 8/9 age group for the Novice competition category with Katie Beveridge from Manor in 2nd and Isobel Lin came in 3rd. Jasmine and Isobel are twins so it was a great competition for them. Britney Wood from Worksop came 1st in the 12+ age group, Novice category followed by MacKenna Stratford and Gabriella Bedford also from Worksop. Charley Blount came 1st in the 12+ Novice+ competition from Manor and Worksop were on the podium again with a 2nd place for Maria Louca.

In the afternoon session there were medals for Dukeries, Manor and Mansfield. Abbie Brooks from Dukeries came 1st in the age 6/7 group in the Novice competition with Rose Forrest of Worksop in a close 2nd and Caitlin Elliot of Mansfield in a very close 3rd. Leah Waddington from Mansfield came 1st in age 10/11 in the Novice competition and with Sara Smith from Worksop and Juliett Smith from Mansfield in 2nd and 3rd places. Jessica Swift from Dukeries came in 1st for the Novice age group 8/9 with Abigail Powell from Worksop in 2nd and Aaliyah Risden from Notts Gymnastics Academy in 3rd place. Chloe Day and Terri West both from Manor came 1st and 2nd in the age 10/11 Novice +.

It was a great competition with some excellent routines from all the Gymnasts. Despite some problems with the music system those affected showed great composure carrying on regardless to the claps of the audience. Hopefully all the competitors had a good day and look forward to competing again next year.

Mens Artisctic

The sport requires all round fitness through strength mobility, endurance, flexibility, body control and co-ordination.Routines are performed on six pieces of apparatus. Floor . Pommell Horse, High Bar Rings, vault. And Parallel Bars. Please see our affiliated clubs list for a club near you.

Womens Artistic

The sport demands body control, body awareness, suppleness, stamina, coordination, amplitude and courage. Routines are performed on 4 pieces of apparatus: Vault, uneven bars, beam and floor. The World Championships for Women have been organised since 1934; the European Championships began in 1957 and the National Championships for women in England were introduced in 1924. An Olympic discipline. Sports Acro

Sports Acrobatics is a beautiful, dynamic sport for both males and females, which is performed to music. It is hoped it will become an Olympic Sport shortly. Sports Acrobatics can cater for a wide range of ages and abilities. Amongst other things it develops courage, fitness, strength, stamina, coordination, flexibility, trust, responsibility for others, teamwork, musical appreciation. Competitors work as women's pairs, mixed pairs, men's pairs, women's trios or men's fours.

Recreational

Playing a leading role within the international Olympic Sport for All activities. General Gymnastics offers a varied range of activities suitable for all age groups and abilities. Comprising essential gymnastics excercises with and without the use of equipment. The county has many clubs affiliated to them that offer the opportunity from the age of 4 – 17. Pre School

A fun introduction to the exciting world of gymnastics for toddlers to 5 years. Pre school gymnastics develops health, fitness, social integration and also contributes to physical and psychological well being.
